世界智能大会由国家发展和改革委员会、科学技术部、工业和信息化部、国家互联网信息办公室、中国科学院、中国工程院、天津市人民政府共同主办。

2017年6月6日，世界智能大会筹委会在北京梅地亚中心召开发布会，介绍相关筹备工作。天津市委副书记、筹委会主任怀进鹏，天津市委常委、筹委会副主任张玉卓，天津市副市长、筹委会副主任赵海山等相关领导出席发布会。
大会主题
2020年4月，第四届世界智能大会的主题是：“迈向大智能时代”。致力于推动世界智能领域的科技交流与合作、培育新兴智能科技产业、推动京津冀协同发展战略、服务经济社会发展。具体来讲，大会包括“一会”，“一展”，“一赛”。“一会”指智能大会，将以京津冀协同发展，智港，千人，产业融投资为主题，举办多项论坛开展交流；“一展”指世界智能科技展，则以“智能科技，智慧生活”为主题，通过集中展示全球智能领域的新技术，新产品，新成果和解决方案，搭建产业对接平台；而“一赛”世界智能驾驶挑战赛将以无人汽车的驾驶挑战为主，将邀请国际评委，按照国际通行比赛规则进行比赛，打造一个具有国际权威性和影响力的品牌赛事。
大会同时将邀请国内外知名科研机构、领军企业的代表及专家学者参加，共同探讨智能科技发展趋势，共同分享产业创新合作成就，共同谋划经济社会应用前景。

第三届
2019年5月16日至19日，第三届世界智能大会在梅江会展中心召开。大会以“智能新时代：进展、策略和机遇”为主题，安排“会、展、赛+智能体验”。
大会以“高起点、入主流、国际化、有特色”为定位，将邀请国际嘉宾超过1200人，来自英国、美国、法国、德国、瑞士等30个国家和地区。
大会将设2场主论坛，16场分论坛，设置一些具有前瞻性、探索性的话题，比如人工智能发展中的伦理思考、法治保障等，邀请嘉宾各抒己见、碰撞交流。举办大数据应用方面的分论坛。
大会期间将举办世界智能驾驶挑战赛、中国（天津）工业APP创新应用大赛、中国华录杯·数据湖创新创业大赛、世界智能水下机器人挑战赛、亚太机器人世界杯天津国际邀请赛共5项赛事。世界智能驾驶挑战赛增加高级辅助驾驶功能展示试驾、自动驾驶汽车试乘等活动；水下机器人挑战赛开展前沿机器人仿真赛、创新技术路演赛，全方位展示水下机器人在各种复杂水环境下的工作性能。

In April 2020, the theme of the 4th World Intelligence Conference is: "Towards the Era of Great Intelligence". From May 16th to 19th, 2019, the 3rd World Intelligence Conference was held in Meijiang Convention and Exhibition Center. With the theme of "Smart New Era: Progress, Strategies and Opportunities", the conference arranged "Conferences, Exhibitions, Competitions + Smart Experiences".
The conference is positioned as "high starting point, mainstream, international, and distinctive", and will invite more than 1,200 international guests from 30 countries and regions including the United Kingdom, the United States, France, Germany, and Switzerland.
